Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division Data Breach Lawsuit Investigation

LSU Health New Orleans Health Care Services Division (“LSU HCSD”) has announced that it had a data breach which affected patients who received medical care at many locations including Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence, Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, W.O. Moss Regional Medical Center in Lake Charles, Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Bogaluse Medical Center in Bogalusa, University Medical Center in Lafayette, Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans, and University Medical Center – New Orleans. The data breach may impact other LSU HSCD locations as well.

LSU HCSD disclosed that an unauthorized person gained access to an employee’s email inbox through which the unauthorized person accessed patients’ highly-sensitive personal and health information including:

  • Patient names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Bank account numbers
  • Medical record numbers
  • Patient account numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Dates of medical services
  • Types of medical services received
  • Detailed health information including diagnosis
  • Phone numbers
  • Home and/or email addresses
  • Insurance identification numbers
